62pc of Haor paddy already harvested

The government on Tuesday said that farmers in Haor areas have already harvested 62 percent Boro paddy from the fields.
A press release sent from the Ministry of Agriculture said, “Farmers have already harvested 62 percent Boro paddy from the fields in Haor area and about 14 percent of the paddy is ripe and 24 percent is still unripe.”
Agriculture Minister Md Abdur Razzak will visit the farmers’ Boro harvesting at Haor in Southern part of Sunamganj Sadar and Tahirpur Upazila of Sunamganj on Wednesday to encourage the farmers and workers, also read the press release.
According to Department of Agricultural Extension, Boro paddy were cultivated in 4,45,399 hectares of land in the haors of seven districts,
Kishoreganj, Netrokona, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Sylhet and Brahmanbaria.
Among them, farmers have already harvested paddy of 2,74,000 hectares of land till Monday, which is 62 per cent of total land.
About 65 percent Boro paddy has been harvested in Sylhet, 72 percent in Moulvibazar, 55 percent in Habiganj, 65 percent in Sunamganj, 74 percent in Netrokona, 70 percent in Brahmanbaria and 47 percent in Kishoreganj.
The government has targeted to harvest 2 crores 4 lakh and 36 thousand ton Boro paddy this year across the country. Total 20 percent of the Boro paddy will be harvested from Haor areas.
The government has declared a countrywide shutdown since March 26 this year due to coronavirus outbreak. Operation of all kinds of traffic has also been suspended due to the same reason. That is why labourer crisis was created in the haor areas this year.
Later, the administration interfered to take some initiatives to send labourers to the haor areas for harvesting Boro paddy and the primary schools of the haor areas were opened for ensuring the residential facilities for the labourers.
