624 leaders of 20-party alliance arrested across country

 Staff Reporter :Police and local sources said that members of the law enforcement agencies have arrested at least 624 leaders and activists the BNP-led 20-party alliance from Monday night to Tuesday. Apart from this, as per the instruction of the Home Ministry, the law enforcers have started filing cases against the leaders and workers of the 20-party alliance for what the ministry termed creating chaos, launching arson attack as well as ransacking vehicles across the country.At least 8,100 BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists have been accused in many cases, police said.In Chittagong, police have arrested at least 56 people from different parts of the metropolitan port city. Two cases have been filed against 400 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat. In Rajshahi, police arrested at least 45 people from different places in the city following separate drives ahead on the 20-party blockede programme. Police filed a case against 7,000 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat with the Puthia Police Station in Rajshahi district on Tuesday, said Rafiqul Islam, Sub-Inspector of the police station.Sylhet: The 20-party men bought out procession in the city yesterday to mark the blockade programme but police foiled it by firing several rounds rubber bullet. The law enforcers also filed a case against the arrested 34 people for creating chaos during the programme.Khulna: Police have arrested at least 24 people from different places in the city following separate drives ahead on the 20-party blockade programme. Barisal: at least two buses were torched in the city in the early hours of Tuesday. A case had been registered against 300 people of the 20-party activists with the Kotwali Police Station. More than 50 people of the alliance were arrested. Rangpur: BNP-Jamaat men set fire on a microbus near Kachari bazaar area in the afternoon. A case has been filed against the pro-blockade supporters on the day. Police also arrested at least 20 people from different parts of the city.Narayanganj: At least 25 BNP leaders and activists were arrested during a clash with the police in the city.Gazipur: Pro-blockade activists set fire on a bus in the afternoon. Police arrested over 40 people in the district, police sources said.Comilla: Leaders and activists of BNP-led 20-party alliance vandalized eight trucks and CNG-run auto rickshaw in Daudkandi on Tuesday. The alliance men were observing the blockade programme on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Eliotgonj of the upazila. At one stage, they vandalized eight vehicles there around 10:30am. Police arrested over 100 people in the city. Bogra: BNP-Jamaat men brought out a procession at Mokamtola in Bogra in the morning. Police arrested at least 24 people from the spot, police said. Jessore: Three vehicles were torched in Jessore during the first day blockade programme of the BNP-led 20-party alliance. The members of law enforcing agencies also arrested at least 100 people in the district town. Police filed two separate cases against the pro-blocked party activists.Jhenidah: The 20-party men vandalized tow human halers and set fire on a rickshaw. Sunamganj: Police have arrested at least 45 people of BNP-Jamaat from the district town. The arrested me were accused in various cases with the police stations. Khagrachhari: Police arrested at least 50 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat and cases separated cases against 200 people of 20-party men on Tuesday. Sonargaon: Police arrested at least 64 people in Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj district. They were shown arrest in various cases. Chadpur: Police have filed eight cases against the 20-party alliance activist in Chadpur Sadar upazila. Pabna: Police have filed a case against 200 BNP-Jamaat men in the district in the morning. Lakkhipur: Police have arrested at least 50 BNP-Jammat men in the district. Gofargaon: Police have filed a case against the BNP-Jamat men following a clash of Jamaat men with the police on Monday night. Nilphamari: Police have arrested at least 30 activists of BNP-Jamat men in Jaldhaka upazila of the district on Monday night. Lalmonirhat: Police have arrested at least 23 activists of BNP-Jamaat in the district Sadar upazila.
