As many as 62 nurses of government and private hospitals in Dhaka city have been infected with coronavirus infection.
Besides, five nurses have been infected in Mymensingh and three in Barishal districts.
Among the infected nurses, two are pregnant, one is a midwife, and two have been recovered from infection.
It was revealed by Sabbir Mahmud Tihan, secretary general of Society for Nurses’ Safety and Rights on Sunday. Sabbir Mahmud the number of infected nurses has been compiled with the latest information received from 15 government hospitals and 10 private hospitals and clinics.
Some 300 nurses who came in contact with the coronavirus infected patients at these government and private hospitals and clinics are now in quarantine after they have developed the virus symptoms.
According to him, the main reasons behind the contraction of the disease by nurses are providing inadequate number of safety gears and availing treatment by patients concealing information.
Besides, the World Health Organisation (WHO) says that the nurses serve the coronavirus infected patients taking maximum risks. So, the rate of infection among nurses would decline if adequate safety measures are ensured, he observed.
The Society for Nurses’ Safety and Rights general secretary also urged the patients not to conceal information while taking treatment at the hospitals and clinics.
He also urged the government to alleviate the sufferings of nurses accepting all their demands during such a crucial situation in the country. If the demands of nurses are accepted, health services at the hospitals and clinics will improve substantially, he said.
