6 killed in road accidents

At least six persons, including four in Cox’s Bazar, were killed and 50 more injured in two separate road crashes in the country on Friday night and Saturday.
In Cox’s Bazar, at least four persons died and 25 more got injured when a passenger bus overturned into a road-side ditch from the highway in Chakoria upazila of the district on Friday midnight.
The accident took place on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway near the Baniarchhara area of the upazila around 11pm.
The identities of the deceased could not be known instantly.
Driver of a ‘Star Line Paribahan’ bus carrying 40 passengers lost control on the steering, and the bus plunged into a roadside ditch, turning upside down and killing four of its passengers on the spot, said Chakaria police OC Md Habibur Rahman.
Several law enforcement teams and Chattogram Fire Service went to the spot and recovered the bodies, the OC added.
Traffic movement on the highway was halted due to the accident. However, traffic became normal once the mangled bus was removed from the site by a crane, OC also added.
In Cumilla, two persons were killed and 12 others sustained injures following a tragic collision between a covered van and a bus on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway at Jagannathdighi area of Chouddogram upazila in Cumilla on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Qader, 46, from Sobhanbag village under West Mohadevpur of Sitakunda municipality and Supervisor of the bus, Russell, 35, son of one Abdul Hakim Sarkar, from Pallabi area under Mirpur of Dhaka city.
AKM Sharfuddin, Chouddogram Mia Bazar police outpost in-charge confirmed the accident.
