6 killed, 8 hurt in Barisal road accident

At least six persons were killed and seven others injured in a head-on collusion between a three-wheeler and a truck at Goriar Par Banshtala of Kashipur on the Barisal-Dhaka highway at about 9:10 AM on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as driver Swapan Das, Amirunnesa, Sohrab Hossain, Altaf Hossain, Parul Begum and Mamunur Rashid Hridoy. All of them were passengers of the three-wheeler Mahendra and inhabitants of Rahmatpur under Babuganj upazila in Barisal district.
Local people and police jointly conducted rescue operation. The dead bodies and the injured were taken to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital, said Inspector Matiar Rahman, Officer-in -Charge of Barisal Airport Police Station. The three-wheeler with 10 passengers on board was going to Barisal from Rahmatpur, while the watermelon-laden truck was passing the area by the highway, said Sub-Inspector Prodip of Airport PS from the spot.
Injured passengers said that the accident happened when the three-wheeler tried to avoid a clash with a motorcycle at the time of overtaking a bus. The three-wheeler clashed with the truck coming from the opposite direction.
Following the accident, the road communication on the highway was snapped for about an hour. However, the traffic resumed after the damaged vehicles were removed from the spot with the help of the Fire Service.
The truck was seized, but the driver and helpers escaped the arrest, the police sources said.
