6 hurt being hit ‘by car of minister’s motorcade’

Six pedestrians were injured as a car allegedly of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal’s motorcade hit
them on Jessore-Khulna highway at Nowapara Nurbagh intersection in Abhaynagar upazila on Sunday morning.
Four of the injured were identified as Sonia Begum, 24, a resident of Shangkarpasa village, Asma Begum, 35, Anjira Begum, 46, residents of
Dighirpar village and Dhirendranath Datta, a resident of Pabla area in Daulatpur thana of Khulna district. Witnesses said a vehicle of the Khulna-bound motorcade of the minister hit them on the highway around 10:15 am while it was trying to overtake a private car, leaving six people injured.
Among them, two critically injured were taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Following the accident, agitated locals blocked the highway for an hour.
Denying the allegation Azizul Islam, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station, said the accident took place when a public transport was trying to overtake other vehicles on the highway.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan went to Khulna to attend ‘Rash Mela’ at Dublar Char Island near the Sundarbans.
