Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested six people along with six kilograms of cocaine from the city’s Nikunju area on Thursday.
The arrested persons were identified as Md Kamrul Alam, 40, and Md Abu Taher Mandol alias Joba, 30, pharmacy owner Md Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, 46, Kazi Khalilullah Mahmud, 40, Md Manu Hawlader, 34, and Md Mosharraf Hossain, 44.
Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch Masudur Rahman said that acting on a tip-off, a special team of DB searched ‘Sheema Pharmacy’ a drug store at the Zaman Market in the area the same evening.
Police arrested six people from the pharmacy and recovered two brown packets containing cocaine worth Tk 4.5 crore from their possession.
During preliminary interrogation, Kamrul and Joba confessed that they were members of an international drug smuggling syndicate and had been involved in drug trading in the capital for long.
A case was filed with Khilkhet police station in this connection.
