6 arrested at SUST ‘for militancy link’ in two months

A total of six students of Sust were arrested in the last two months over militancy connection.
Law enforcers arrested two students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) Wednesday for their alleged involvement in militancy.
The arrestees are: Rokonuzzaman Rana, 22, a fourth-year student at petroleum and mining engineering (PME); and Mehedy Hasan Tuhin, 19, a second-year student at industrial production engineering (IPE).
Prof Rashed Taluckder, adviser of students’ welfare at the university, said a team of law enforcers wearing plain clothes arrested the two students after informing the university authorities.
The law enforcers identified themselves as Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members, Prof Taluckder said.
Rana was arrested from Topobon residential area and Tuhin from Surma residential area of Akhalia in the city on last afternoon, said the students’ adviser of Sust.
Earlier, three fourth-year students of the university, Abdul Aziz, Iffat Ahmed Chowdhury Nahid and Sadman Abedin, and one master’s student Jewel Ahmed were arrested.
Police then claimed that Abdul Aziz was a coordinator of militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) at Sust and Jewel Ahmed an active member of Hijb-ut-Tahrir.
The detail of Iffat and Sadman were not revealed, but all four are in custody now.
