The state minister for youth and sports has cited figures as old as those of 2010 to say only five percent of Bangladesh’s 34 million educated youths are unemployed.
Biren Sikder informed Parliament of the figures on Sunday quoting a Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics labour force survey report while replying to a question.
According to the 2010 survey, as many as 1.9 million educated youths were jobless.
Sikder highlighted government efforts to alleviate unemployment and create jobs.
He said around 2.2 million youths joined the labour force each year.
Meanwhile, Minister Anisul Haque, who oversees the Election Commission Secretariat, said the EC had organised 1,873 polls during its tenure. Of them, 313 were national polls and the rest local.
Replying to another question, he said altogether 39,388 local and international observers had overseen these polls.
