538 unregistered private hospitals, clinics & diagnostic centres sealed

A total of 538 unregistered private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres were shut down across the country In the last three days. Of them, 164 unregistered health centers have been closed in Dhaka.
Professor Belal Hossain, Director of hospitals and clinics of the Health Department confirmed it to The New Nation on Sunday.
“We gave a 72-hour ultimatum to shutdown unregistered hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centers. We have sealed 538 clinics, private hospitals and diagnostic centers so far. We will continue our drive against unregistered and convicted health organizations so that they can’t re-establishment again. We have yet to receive the data of some districts, so this number may increase further,” Professor Belal Hossain said.
He further said three teams led by civil surgeons outside Dhaka and senior officials of the health department in the capital were working to shutdown the unregistered hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centers.
Besides, two teams of the Consumer Rights Department in Dhaka have imposed fines of Tk 1.80 lakh against various companies for mismanagement and possession of expired medicine, Dr Belal said.
Earlier on May 26, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) had asked all unregistered private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres across the country to shut down their operations within 72 hours.
