‘50,000 more to be recruited in police force’

State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said yesterday the government has taken an initiative to recruit 50,000 more personnel to augment the manpower of police force.
He was speaking at a gathering of senior police officers as the chief guest at Rajarbagh Police Telecom in the city marking the Police Week-2015.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s announcement to create 50,000 more posts in the police force, he directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take necessary administrative measures to initiate recruitment.
“Necessary measures have already been taken to make the police and RAB time-befitting and modern, he said, adding, “We will turned the police force into a disciplined, efficient, and professional force to contain crimes and for this we will do everything possible.”
“We have decided in principle to form cyber crime unit and counter terrorism unit to curb the increasing trend of cyber crime and contain terrorism,” the minister informed. Hailing police and RAB for their contributions to curb militancy and crime alongside maintaining law and order, Kamal said,” Police and RAB personnel have been performing duties during the blockade and hartal risking their lives.
The state minister said that the United Nations has expressed its desire to appoint more Bangladeshi police personnel considering their remarkable contributions to the peace keeping missions.
Additional IGP (admin) Mokhlesur Rahman presided over the function while among others, Senior Secretary of Home Ministry Mozammel Haque Khan, IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed, Addition IGP of Special Branch (SB) Md Zabed Patwari and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, were present on the occasion.
Senior officers from different corners of the country have put forwarded the problems they are currently facing in performing duties.
