MR vaccine: 50 students fall sick, one killed in Jhenaidah

At least 50 students of Addhakhya Mosharraf Hossain-Saleha Khatun Junior High School in Jhenidah sadar upazila fallen sick when they were administered Measles Rubella(MR) on Wednesday morning.
The sick students were rushed to Jhenidah Sadar hospital. The conditions of them are stated to be normal, said the resident medical officer (RMO) Rashed-Al-Mamun of the hospital.
Earlier, on last Monday noon a class six students had died after taking anti-measles dose, better known as Hamrubela at Kalisankarpur village under Harinakundu upazila in Jhenidah.
3 probe committees formed to investigate student’s death
A class six student was died after taking anti-measles dose, better known as at Kalisankarpur village under Harinakundu upazila in Jhenidah on Monday.
The student was identified as Ariful Islam, 11, son of Mosaddek Ali of Kalisankarpur village, studying in Bhaina secondary school in Harinakundu upazila.
The ministry of health, district civil surgeon office and upazila health complex authority had formed three separate probe committees to investigate the matter, said the civil surgeon office sources.
Ratna Khatun, elder sister of Ariful said, he was provided Hamrubela injection from his educational institution at about 12.00 noon. As he fallen sick, was rushed to Harinakundu upazila health complex. Ariful died there at about 4.00 PM. He was physically fit before taking the injection, she added.
Upazila health and family planning officer Dr. Rabiul Islam said, Ariful had been suffering from Asthma for a long time. But he (UHFPO) could not detect the reason behind the death. Civil Surgeon Dr, Nasrin Sultana of Jhenidah rushed the hospital immediately, UHFPO Rabiul Islam said.
Two probe committees were formed under the leadership of resident medical officer, also the pediatric specialist of the UHC Dr. Anwarul Islam, while another committee as per the instruction of the ministry of health with civil surgeon Dr. Nasrin Sultana. The committees were advised to submit report within 3 working days.
