UNB, Noakhali :
A fire broke out at a market in Maijdee Court area of the district town early Monday burning down its 50 shops.
Humayun Kabir, station officer of Maijdee fire station, said a fire originated from an unknown source at Maijdee Hawkers Market at about 3:45 am burning down almost 50 out of 300 shops in the market.
On information, five fire fighting units from Maijdee, Chaumuhuni and Sonaimuri fire stations rushed in and doused the flames after almost two hours of frantic efforts with the help of locals at 6:00pm.
Two fire fighters were injured while extinguishing the flames. Several shops of adjoining Momin Shopping Complex and Chandni Super Market were also damaged in the incident.
