50 maunds of jatka seized from two launches in Meghna

About 50 maunds of jatka was seized from two Dhaka bound passenger launches in the middle of Meghna River in Chandpur town early Friday near.
The launches are MV Kornofuly-1 and MV Farhan-1V. They were going to Sadarghat from Barishal.
Later, these seized fishes were distributed among the orphanages and destitute people at the coastguard office premises till 12 noon on Friday in presence of the Upazila Sadar Fisheries officer Mahbub Rashid.
According to the Coastguard office , acting on a tip off, Bangladesh Coastguard(BCG) members led by station commander Lft ASM Lutfor Rahman along with Sadar Upazila Fisheries Officer Mahbub Rashid conducted sudden drives very early in the morning and observed that these fishes contained in many big-sized fish baskets on the deck of the launches.
The coastguard members led by station commander and Upazila Sadar Fisheries officer Mahbub Rashid at once seized them all, about 50 maunds. No owner of the jatka fish was however found at that time. The launch staffs of both the launches were also warned by the team against transporting jatka fish which is completely illegal as per Government law.
