Govt announces amnesty: 50, 000 BD workers get legality in UAE

A large number of Bangladeshi workers have got legality in the United Arab Emirate as the government of the country grauted amnesty to those illegal expatriates.
“About 50, 000 illegal Bangladeshi workers in the UAE have been grauted amnesty to get legality in the UAE by last September to December,” Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said it in a press briefing in his office on Wednesday.
The Foreign Minister said that the UAE is the second largest manpower market for the Bangladeshi workers.
The Minister hoped that the upcoming visit by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will help widen Bangladesh’s labour market in the UAE further.
He said, the Prime Minister will discuss wide range of bilateral issues, including manpower export and investment, during her talks with the UAE leaders.
Bangladesh and UAE have already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for import Bangladeshi manpower in 19 categories.
The UAE also opened its visa for Bangladeshi physicians, Engineers and such others professionals.
The Minister expressed his hope that some important MoU will be signed by Bangladesh and the UAE including establishing power plants, LNG stations and Special Economic Zones during the Prime Minister’s visit.
He hoped that a MoU may be signed by Bangladesh Power Development Board and UAE’s Sheikh Ahmed Dalmuk Al Maktum’s private company for the power sector investment here.
The minister said that the Prime Minister will visit the UAE on February 17-19 in her way back from Germany.
