Food Minister Md Kamrul Islam tuesday informed the House that the government has taken a five-year plan for ensuring food security in the country.
“Under the plan titled Bangladesh Investment Planning: Food Security, Road Map of Investing in Agriculture and Nutrition, 12 sectors have been included as the priority targets for food autarky leading to the food security,” he said.
While replying to a question from treasury bench member Nizam Uddin Hazari in the House, the minister said the targeted 12 sectors also include six agriculture development-oriented ones. Steps have already been taken to achieve food autarky in future, he added.
The food minister also said that the present government has taken different plans to make the country self-sufficient in food side by side with ensuring food security for all and improving their nutrition status.
The government has already reduced the price of urea fertilizer by 20 percent and cut the price of non-urea fertilizer by two-thirds, he said.
