A Kushtia court has sentenced five men to death and six others to life in prison for the murder of farmer Nurul Islam in 2014.
Judge Munshi Md Mashiur Rahman passed the verdict on Wednesday.
The convicts sentenced to death are Masud, Parvez, Haribar Rahman, Fazlur Rahman and Sarwar Hossain.
Hossain, Monju, Sohel Rana, Ramiz Ali, Matiar Rahman and Kabir Hossain were jailed for life. The court sentenced Nannu and Farid to seven years in prison. Bhutto, Rocky, Enayet and Salam received three years.
Other suspects Tariqul, Akram, Ashraf Imran and Salam were acquitted in the case, as the charges against them could not be proved.
Farmer Nurul Islam was killed on Dec 20, 2014 in Mirpur Upazila’s Poradaha village over establishing dominance in the area, according to the case.
The chargesheet against the suspects was submitted to the court on Apr 30, 2015 after a case was initiated with the Mirpur Police Station.
