A court here on Tuesday sentenced five people to death for killing a youth in 2009. The condemned convicts are-Rintu Mir, 23, son of Sahadat Mir, Ziaur Rahman zia, 24, son of Khokon Fakir, Mannan Mia, 52, son of Munsur Ali Mir of Patorpara village, Alfaz Hossain Rubel, 24, son of Sheikh Abul Hossain and Faijul Chowdhury, 22, son of Tofazzal Chowdhury of Sundarghona village in Sadar uapzila.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each.
According to the prosecution, the convicts killed Taj Mir, son of Mohasen Mia of Patorpara village in
Sadar upazila, over previous enmity on June 19, 2009.
Later, they took away cash Tk 75,000 and a mobile phone sets from Taj’ s possession and buried the body at Khejurpukur Par in the night.
On June 20, 2009, Muslima Begum, mother of Taj, filed a murder case accusing four people with Sadar Police Station.
Later, police recovered the body of Taj from the area on July 15 following the confessional statement of Rintu Mir, a cousin of Taj.
