A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five members of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), including two IT engineers from Jatrabari and Badda areas of the capital on Monday night.
Police claimed the accused as the members of a JMB faction, which they call Neo-JMB, led by Sarwar and Tamim Chowdhury, alleged masterminds of the Gulshan Cafe attack. They were killed last year.
The arrested men are: Oliuzzaman alias Oli, 28,
an engineer of a multinational company, Anwarul Alam, 29, teacher of a coaching centre, Saleh Ahmed Sheesh, 22, Abul Kashem, 27, and Md Mohan Mohsin, 20, RAB official said.
Anwar Latif Khan, Additional Director General (Operations) of RAB Headquarters, said this at the elite force’s media centre in the city’s Karwran Bazar on Tuesday afternoon.
 “Tipped off, a team of the RAB-10 conducted raids in different areas of the city and arrested the five at night, the RAB official said.
The elite force members also recovered objectionable books and explosives from their possessions, the ADG said.
Even, Oli obtained degree in Electrical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2012, while Anwarul Alam did it in Chemical Engineering from the same university, the RAB official said.
The five were planning to conduct sabotage in a government establishment in the capital, according to Colonel Anwar Latif Khan.
He, however, did not disclose the location of the targeted establishment to avoid creating tension among the people.
