Upazila Election: 5 murder accused UZ chairman contender!

The sensitive five murder case accused Hanif Munshi has been allegedly nominated as ruling Awami League candidate for the post of chairman for contesting to the upcoming upazila parishad election of Ashuganj upazila of the district to be held on 31st March in 4th phase.
The candidate is also a joint convener of upazila unit AL and a resident of Chorchartola village of the upazila. A widespread repercussion among the party leaders, activists and common voters in average for his having nomination in spite of his being accused in one of the most sensational murder cases in the district.
Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Lalpur village of the upazila has filed a written complaint to the district election officer in this regard mentioning the said murder case on Sunday, 3 March. Besides, the copy of this complaint has also been sent to the Chief Election Commissioner, IGP of Police, Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong, Deputy Commissioner and Police Super of Brahmanbaria.
In the written complaint, it is stated that the court of Chattogram Speedy Tribunal issued an arrest warrant against Hanif Munshi on September 25, 2018 in the case of killing five persons committed at Chorchartola village in last 2006. On November 19, 2006 at dead hours of night, then vice president of upazila unit Awami League Rafiqul Islam’s elderly mother, pregnant daughter and her school going son and night guard of the house were brutally killed. Hanif Munshi is accused in the Ejahar in five persons killing case.
On the other, for his having nomination caused anger and frustration among the grassroots AL and its leaders, activists also. The president and secretary of AL of seven union unit out of eight union of the upazila have called emergency meeting to resist the murder accused Hanif Munshi. In the meeting, all including seven sitting UP chairman and president and secretaries of seven union unit AL also were present led by Talshahar UP chairman Abu Shama at the auditorium of Talshahar union parishad on last Sunday evening.
When asked Hanif Munshi about this complaint, he claimed that he had papers of bail from the court and said, ‘The case is now under trial in the court. If the court delivers the final judgment, I will be proved guilty or innocent. Sometimes case may be true or false. I know I have been involved in a false case.’
