5 more banks stop transactions on 10 e-commerce sites

Five more banks have suspended transactions using their cards on 10 e-commerce sites including evaly and alishamart following BRAC Bank.
The banks are City Bank Limited, Mutual Trust Bank Limited, Bank Asia, Dhaka Bank and Prime Bank. These banks have suspended transactions on those 10 e-commerce sites using their credit, debit and pre-paid cards.
Some of these banks have informed their customers through SMS and e-mails about the suspension of transactions. Besides, they have put the message on the notice boards of their own websites. It is learnt that the banks have taken the initiatives to caution their customers so that none of them becomes the victim of fraudulent practices. The list of 10 e-commerce sites include those which sell products at much lower prices compared to market prices, or taking money before delivery of products but don’t deliver products in time.
Contacted, Mutual Trust Bank Limited’s managing director Syed Mahbubur Rahman said transaction on some e-commerce sites have been suspended for the time being taking the customers’ greater interest into consideration. The next steps would be taken according to the directive of the Bangladesh Bank, he said.
Several banks have uploaded notices on their own websites mentioning the names of several e-commerce sites. These include Dhamaka Shopping, e-orange, Sirajganj Shop, Aladiner Pradeep, Q.com, Boom Boom, Adian Mart and Needsbd.com. Banks have taken cautionary measures following various allegations raised against these online market places.
