Five lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by Sinopharm have arrived in Dhaka. China has given these vaccines as a gift to Bangladesh.
The vaccine-carrying C-130 cargo plane landed at Kurmitola Bangabandhu Air Base at 5.35 am on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, foreign ministry sources told that the vaccines would be handed over to the Bangladesh government on Wednesday afternoon. On this occasion, a vaccination handover ceremony has been organized at the state guest house Padma at 11:15 am on Wednesday. Foreign Minister D. AK Abdul Momen will be present at the ceremony.
Earlier, an Air Force plane went to China to bring the vaccine. The plane reached Beijing International Airport on Tuesday.
India has stopped exporting vaccines due to the rapid rise in coronavirus in their country. As a result, there is uncertainty about the remaining 23 million doses of vaccines purchased by Bangladesh. In such a situation, the government approved the emergency use of the Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by Russia’s Sputnik-V and the Chinese company Sinopharm.
