Police arrested five local Jubo League men in Mymensingh’s Muktagacha upazila early Wednesday in a case filed over allegedly assaulting an on-duty doctor.
The arrestees are: Mahbubul Alam Moni (38), president of Muktagacha upazila unit of Jubo League, and four other Jubo League activists Jahidul Islam Jewel (35), Rana Dey (27), Md Kamruzzaman (35) and Rakibul Islam Sharif (26).
Police arrested the five from different areas of Muktagacha early Wednesday after the victim filed the case with
Muktagacha Police Station on Tuesday night, said Md Dulal Akanda, Officer-in-Charge.
Quoting the case statement, OC Dulal Akanda said Dr AHM Salekin Mamun (28), was on duty at the emergency department of Muktagacha Upazila Health Complex on Tuesday noon.
Around 2:00pm, Jubo League leader Moni called the hotline of the hospital and asked to collect sample of his 70-year-old mother for Covid-19 test from his residence in Dargarpar area in Muktagacha municipality.
Dr Salekin informed that collecting sample from home has been stopped and advised him to bring his mother to the hospital for giving sample.
Hearing this reply from the doctor, Moni became furious.
Immediately Moni along with some of his followers came to the hospital and allegedly entered the room of Dr Salekin and beat up him, the OC added,.
Talking to our correspondent, Dr Utpol Sarker, acting Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer in Muktagacha, said they demand exemplary punishment for those involved in the attack.
Shah Kamal Akanda, Officer-in-Charge of Detective Branch of Mymensingh police, said the arrestees were sent to jail by a Mymensingh court on Wednesday noon.
