Detectives arrested five suspected members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB),
including its military wing chief, from the city’s Karnaphuli area on Monday.
The arrestees were identified as Zabed, 25, chief of the outfit’s military wing, and four members-Sumon alias Babu, 24, Bulbul Ahmed, 26, Sohel, 23, and Mahbub, 25.
Tipped off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) launched a drive at Khoajnagar under Karnaphuli Police Station around 6:30pm and arrested the five JMB men, said CMP additional deputy commissioner (DB) of Babul Akter.
During the drive, the DB team also recovered nine grenades, one pistol, 120 bullets, several knives and huge bomb-making materials from the spot, he said.
