Five jar water companies have been fined Tk 4 lakh by a mobilefor selling unsafe water in Paltan and Topkhana areas in the city on Sunday.
A mobile court conducted by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-3) also crushed 200 jars.
Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam led the mobile court. The Magistrate told a group of journalists that they found filling unsafe water into jars in ‘Dighi drinking water’ in Topkhana Road. The court fined the officials of the company Aminur Rahman and Tamanna Afrin Tk one lakh as fine.
The mobile court also fined Tk 2 lakh to Mojammel Haque, the owner of ‘Winner drinking water’ in the same road for the same crime.
It also fined Tk 1 lakh to Fajlul Haque, the owner of ‘Aqua Blue’ in culvert road for the same cause.
The mobile court also sentenced for three months jail to each Md. Selim, Tauhid Ahmed, Delwar Hossain, Rezaul and Nazmul Hossain, officials from ‘Limuka drinking water’ for preparing unsafe water in jar to sell.
It also sealed ‘Masafee drinking water’ in Purana paltan for selling unsafe jar water. It gave one months jail to Ibrahim Mollah, Md. Shamim, Md. Mahbub and Tasrul Islam, officials of the firm.
Recently, a research work revealed that most of the jar water is unsafe and full of hazardous for human health.
The administration warned the firms not to sell unsafe water. But, the dishonest businessmen are yet to shun the path.
In these circumstances, the mobile court is frequently conducting such operations to stop selling of hazardous water.
