5 human traffickers held, 9 female victims rescued

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive rescued nine women from the city Uttara on Monday night.
The identities of the victims could not be known immediately.
They also arrested five alleged human traffickers, including three women during the drive.
The arrested persons are Abdul Latif, 45, from Chandpur, Shahidul Haque, 44, hailing from Noagaon, Shilpi Akhter, 22, from Chadpur, Shima Akhter Mousumi, 19, from Dhaka, and Rina Akhter, 30, inhabitant of Chandpur.
The elite force also seized 195 fake passports, two computers, a fax machine, a scanner, a DVD and Tk 2,50, 127 in cash, RAB officials said.
RAB-2 Operation Officers Maruf Ahmed said that a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and arrested five members, including three women of an international human traffickers’ gang at night.
They also rescued nine women from the spot, the RAB officials said.
A case was filed in this connection, he said.
