5 held on fraud charges in city

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Friday arrested five persons from the city’s Pallabi area on charges of taking huge amount of money from people alluring them of fake job and business offers.
The arrested men are Harun-Ur-Rashid, 56, Sanad Saha, 47, Shamsul Alam Majumdar alias Kopa Shamsu, 48, Aminul Islam, 37, and Moksedur Rahman Akon, 38.

briefing, told reporters how they lost Tk 25 lakh and 7.75 lakh respectively to the gang.
On an information, a team of PBI arrested the people from a house in the city’s Pallabi area on Friday night, Mainul Hasan, Additional Deputy Inspector General (PBI’s Dhaka Metropolitan Unit-East) said this to the journalists on Saturday morning at Agargaon.
They mainly target retired government and private sector officials to take money from them promising of new jobs with high salary or business deals by setting up fake office in various places of Dhaka, the PBI official said.
The gang took money from at least 12 people, like retired secretary and Joint-Secretary. Even they took 1.48 core from a Joint-Secretary recently, according to the PBI official.  
The gang published job circular in many national dailies for the retired Army officers, bankers and civil administration officers, using the fake identities of different offices, he said. They are expert in Hindi language like Maroary businessmen and well dressed up. They cheated the people with the help of their Indian partners, he added.
