5 held for adopting unfair means in DU admission test

Seven candidates seeking admission into the first year Honours course, Business Faculty, Dhaka University were arrested on the charge of adopting unfairness in the examination halls on Friday.
Acting Proctor Amzad Ali said, “The university authorities held seven students, who were forging in the examination with the help of cell phones. They have been handed over to the nearest police stations of the centres.”
The Proctor said: “The lone female accused, Sanjana Binte Bashir, daughter of a judge has
 been released on humanitarian ground. The other six accused will be prosecuted.” “We are taking preparation to lodge cases against them,” he said.
The detainees are Faisal Kabir, Ahadur Rahman, Ariful Islam, Nurul Absar Payel, Mehedi Hasan and Ershad Haque.
Sources said that the admission test of Business Studies (C Unit) Faculty of Dhaka University was held yesterday. The members of a crime syndicate contacted with the students and their guardians. They managed at least Tk three lakh from the guardians assuring them that their children would be admitted into the honours course. They used SMS process through cell phone.
The examiners in different centers caught the accused admission seekers when they used mobile phone with the examination halls.
Different admission coaching centers, including UCC and Uniaid, and teachers were involved with this process.
Meanwhile, three persons have been arrested on suspicion of being mastermind of the syndicate.
Police recovered laptops and some other devices from the 6th floor of house number 38/5/B in the Azimpur residential area in the afternoon.
The accused were handed over to the Lalbag Police Station. The admission tests for the first year honours courses at Dhaka University began on Friday.
