UNB, Dhaka :
The inquiry officer of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has submitted his probe report to the Commission on the allegation of taking freedom fighter’s (FF’s) certificates by six senior government officials ahead of their retirement.
The report recommended cancellation of the certificates of five of the officials as they failed to take the certificate following the official procedure, and the inquiry officer, during his probe, did not find any evidence of their participation in the 1971 Liberation War, ACC sources said.
The report suggested cancelling FF certificates of Trust secretary Niaz Uddin Bhuiyan, Liberation War Affairs secretary KH Masud Siddiqui, Science and Technology secretary AKM Amir Hossain, former secretary to PMO Molla Waheeduzzaman (now chairman of the Privatization Commission) and joint secretary of Liberation War Affairs Abul Quasem Talukdar.
The ACC probe found that Housing and Public Works secretary Dr Khondakar Showkat Hossain was a real freedom fighter.
ACC deputy director Zulfiker Ali submitted the probe report to the Commission eight months after the probe was launched.
The Commission will ask the authorities concerned to take departmental action against them, a senior ACC official told UNB showing anonymity.
In January 2014, the ACC launched probe against six top officials of the government who took freedom fighter’s (FF’s) certificates prior to their retirement.
