N’ganj, Correspondent :Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) panel mayor Nazrul Islam along with his four associates was abducted by a gang of unidentified miscreants from Fatulla area of the city on Sunday. Nazrul’s aides Tajul, Swapan, Liton and his car driver are others who were also abducted with him. A group of miscreants, posing as members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), intercepted the private car of Nazrul in front of Shibu Market around 2:30PM when he along with the others was returning after appearing before a local court in a case, according to eye witnesses of the abduction. Later, they boarded the private car and sped away, witnesses said.Selina Islam, wife of Nazrul Islam ,councillor of NCC from ward-2, alleged that her husband who belongs to the ruling Awami League was abducted by his rivals.Nazrul Islam has rivalry with councillor Nur Hossain who also belongs to the ruling party, Selina Islam said adding the hired men of Hossain might be behind the abduction. Meanwhile, the supporters of Nazrul put up barricade on Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet highways in Signboard area at about 5 PM following the spread of the news of his abduction. The road blockade disrupted traffic on the busy highways for sometime. Later, police brought the situation under control.When contacted Officer in Charge of Siddirganj Abdul Matin said that they were searching vehicles setting up check posts. As soon as the news reached us, he said, ” We have set up check posts to find out Nazrul Islam and four others.”His wife Selina Islam blamed,Nur Hossain Narayanganj city corporation(NCC) Councilor of ward no-4 of siddirganj behind the kidnapping.The supporters of Nazrul Islam burnt tyres at signboard area on Dhaka-Chittagong high way and created barricade. Police baton charged on the supporters of Nazrul Islam to clear the road.Police Superintendent Syed Nurul Islam said the investigation was in progress to track down Nazrul Islam and four others.His wife Selina went to the office of the police superintendent seeking his help to return her husband and also four others unhurt.Meanwhile, the car of Nazrul Islam was recovered from Gazipur Shalban area in the evening on the day.
