Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Saturday said, a total of 495 nationals of different countries are now languishing in Bangladesh jails.
He said this while addressing a seminar titled ‘Combating Trafficking: Repatriation of Victims of Trafficking’ organised by National Human Rights Commission in a city hotel.
The Home Minister said though 86 of the foreign nationals were freed by courts, but their home countries refused to take them back. That is why they are still in jails.
He said, many Bangladeshi nationals also go abroad getting huge allurement from different quarters. But ultimately they are being cheated. “We should work together to check the human trafficking
especially those who leave the country receiving false assurance,” he said.
The Minister said that the government would do everything to prevent the human trafficking.
“We are working to form committees in every district in this regard,” he said.
National Human Rights Commission Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque said, a good number of Bangladeshi people, who went abroad through illegal channel, have been living with miseries. They should be brought back to ensure human rights.
“Law should be implemented to check any kind of human trafficking. But unfortunately the government has failed to form a tribunal although a law was enacted in 2012 in this regard,” he said.
