BANDHU Foundation of Bangladesh, Give Bangladesh and Aamrai Bangladesh jointly carried out a tree-plantation program called ‘Project Oxygen’ in Koyra Upazila, Khulna on Friday, where 49,000 trees were planted in Amphan-hit coastal areas.
About 40,000 trees were damaged in Koyra because of the devastating cyclone Amphan in May this year. The organizers and their supporters are hoping that their initiative will lead to reforestation and lend crucial support to the Sundarbans in withstanding future natural disasters.
To ensure long term survival of these trees, the local youth organizations involved in Project Oxygen will look after them over the next year. 1,000 local ultra-poor people will look after the fruit-bearing trees, and consume the fruits that are expected to grow in a few years.
The project is being financed through a successful crowdfunding effort, with a generous contribution from the people of Bangladesh and by local institutional supporters who came forward to contribute to this cause.
Bank Asia, BRAC Bank, IPDC Finance Limited, Nijer Bolar Moto Ekta Golpo, Robi Axiata, Shwapno, and Dhaka Ladies’ Club donated trees while Epyllion Group provided masks for the volunteers who participated in the event.
BANDHU Foundation of Bangladesh is a development innovation organization that explores innovative and sustainable solutions to address wide-ranging social issues in Bangladesh, such as menstrual hygiene of adolescent girls and providing mental development support to children of sex workers.
Give Bangladesh is an initiative under Social Work Platform Trust, with the aim to facilitate the participation of fellow Bangladeshis in the development process of the country. The platform aims to offer innovative and effective solutions to prevalent issues such as inaccessibility to clean water, improving yields and income of poor farmers, sanitation and hygiene, and disaster response.
Aamrai Bangladesh is a social venture that brings forth the stories about inspirational and selfless patriots of the country through their social media activities and television show.
