Karnaaphuli Gas Distribution Company launched disconnection drives against the illegal gas consumers in the city from March 15 last. During the period of 21 days, a total numbers of 490 gas connections have been disconnected in the city including 488 domestic, one commercial and one industrial consumers in the city.
These disconnection drives launched with 3 special teams.
Out of the 488 domestic consumers, 321 disconnected for nonpayment of bills, and 167 for bypassing the gas riser and tempering meters, sources said.
Mentionable that a mobile court led Executive Magistrate Abdullal al Mansur accompanied by police and RAB forces disconnected 81 domestic gas connections in Baizid thana area recently.
Sources said one house owner Nuru using 81 burners in 81 rental flats taking approval of 14 double burner oven from Gas company.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers and Gas official, the caretaker of the colony fled away quickly and later the mobile team disconnected their gas connections instantly, sources said.
