49 reserved seat nominees elected unopposed

The 49 candidates nominated for the women reserved seats in the Parliament have been declared elected uncontested as there were no other candidates.  
Election Commission Joint Secretary and Returning Officer Abul Kashem said that Saturday was the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers. As none withdrew their candidature and as there were no other candidates, 49 have been elected uncontested.
He said, the Election Commission will announce the final list of the MPs for the women reserved seats today.
According to the EC, 43 from Awami League, four from Jatiya Party and one from Workers’ Party of Bangladesh submitted nomination papers for election.
The reserved seats for women are allocated to political parties in proportion with their number of seats in the Parliament. Accordingly, 43 seats were allocated to Awami League, four to Jatiya Party, one apiece for BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront, Workers’ Party and independent candidates.
Earlier on February 12, the EC declared valid the nominations of 49 aspirants after scrutiny.
