47,035 posts vacant in govt primary schools, JS told

A total of 47,035 posts of headmasters and assistant teachers in the government primary schools and the recently nationalized schools are remaining vacant across the country. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told this on Monday in the Jatiya Sangsad, while replying to a question from treasury bench member Selina Begum. On behalf of Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman, Nahid said the government is recruiting teachers every year through competitive examinations, aimed at improving quality of education. Nahid informed the House that 23,494 posts in government primary schools are lying vacant, of which 7,981 posts are of headmaster and 15,513 posts are of assistant teacher (Except three Chittagong Hill Tracts districts). Besides, 23,541 posts in recently nationalized primary schools are vacant across the country, of which 7,844 posts are of headmaster and 15,697 posts are of assistant teacher, he said.
The minister informed the House that a total of 2,95,197 teachers are working in the country’s primary schools including recently nationalized primary schools at present.
