In total 43,53,279 motorised vehicles were registered in the country from 2010 to January 2020.
Of them, 15,41,785 are motorised vehicles registered in Dhaka alone.
According to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) statistics, over 1400 motorcycles were registered in a single day across the country and a total of 28,96,547 were registered from 2010 to January 2020.
Of the total, 43,128 motorcycles registered in the country stood in January 2020 while 8,903 in Dhaka.
The BRTA sources said, “We are bound by law and government rules. So, we are obliged by car registration.”
Meanwhile, the mode of vehicles that had the highest number of registration was motorcycles while cargo vans were the lowest number of registered vehicles.
About 28,96,547 motorcycles were registered in 2010 to January 2020 across the country, while the number of cargo van registration stood at 9702 only.
Beside, 43,128 motorcycles were registered in January 2020 only across the country while the number of cargo van registration stood at one only, the BRTA data showed.
A total of 5,04,130 motorised vehicles were registered in 2019 while it was 4,97,374 in 2018, 4,20,398 in 2017, 4,16,410 in 2016, 3,21,215 in 2015, 1,60,639 in 2014, 1,37,109 in 2013, 1,60,705 in 2012, 1,85,386 in 2011, 14,98,244 in 2010.
Transport expert Dr Saleh Uddin Ahmed told The New Nation, “BRTA must take steps to reduce traffic jam in the cities. If is obligatory.
