Despite a recent surge in Covid-19 fatalities and infections, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) is determined to hold the 41st Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) preliminary examination on scheduled time.
“Through maintaining hygiene guidelines strictly, the 41st BCS exam will be held on March 19 as per BPSC’s decision,” BPSC chairman Md Sohrab Hossain told the media on Monday. Meanwhile, several job aspirants have demanded a postponement of the examination worried about their health safety amid a recent spike in Covid-19 cases.
They made their demand at a human chain at Shahbagh intersection on Monday.
They urged the authorities to defer the examination to a later date in line with the scheduled reopening of university dormitories on May 17 as well as ensuring vaccines for examinees.
As many as 475,000 job seekers have applied for the 41st BCS against 2,166 cadre posts. Preliminary examinations are scheduled to be held in eight divisional cities.
The circular for the examination was published on November 27, 2019.
Bangladesh is seeing a spike in Covid-19 cases and deaths in March. On Monday, a total of 26 new deaths and 1,773 cases were recorded in 24 hours, which is the highest in the last three months.
