The University Press Limited (UPL) on Friday held the launch event of UPL Adopt-a-Library Program, a new initiative to mark the 40th anniversary of UPL’s efforts in building a reading society. UPL introduced the program at the Poet Shamsur Rahman Seminar Room in Bangla Academy at 10.00 AM.
This program was another milestone in UPL’s 41-year long journey, undertaken in order to help libraries across Bangladesh, whether stand-alone or attached to institutions, to gain access to the books they need. The end goal is to make these libraries flourish and encourage readers to engage with their libraries anew.
Individuals and corporates can use UPL Adopt-a-Library Program to donate book bundles to institution-based or stand-alone libraries according to their requisition. A documentary film was screened to introduce the program and to explain how the process will work.
Mrs. Akhtari Momtaz, Secretary, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, attended the event as the chief guest.
Dr. Anir Chowdhury, Policy Advisor, A2I, Prime Minister’s Office, and Dr. Faizul Latif Chowdhury, Director General of Bangladesh National Museum, attended the program as special guests, and eminent economist Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud chaired the session.
The University Press Limited is a noted publishing house in Bangladesh. It publishes educational, academic and scholarly books both in the English and the Bangla languages.
