40 hurt in Magura AL factional clash

Around 40 people were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League over establishing supremacy in Sreepur upazila headquarters here on Thursday.
Sreepur thana officer-in-charge Shah Mohammad Awlad said there was a longstanding enmity between AL Sreepur sadar union unit general secretary Mashiur Rahman and Magura district BCL vice-president Abdul Mannan over establishing supremacy in the area. As a sequel to the previous enmity, supporters of Mannan beat Up Tipu Miah, a supporter of Moshiur around 10 am. As the news spread, Mashiur’s supporters attacked Mannan’s supporters with lethal weapons, triggering a clash around 12 pm that left 40 people injured.
Thirty houses were vandalised and looted during the three hour long clash.
On information, police rushed in and lobber tear gas shells and fired bullets to bring the situation under control.
The injured were admitted to sadar hospital and Dariapur hospital. Police arrested Moshiur Rahman and Abdul Mannan from the spot. A case was filed.
