At least 40 leaders and activists of BNP including its Organizing Secretary Hazi Israhil Mia were arrested in the district in connection with violence following verdict that sentenced Party Chief, Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on Friday and Saturday.
Police filed cases there on allegations of violence and obstructing police from discharging their in duties and vandalism.
The arrested were produced the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. They had been sent to district jail.
