Fire-fighters are trying to rescue a four-year old boy four hours after he fell into a several hundred feet deep hole at capital Dhaka’s Khilgaon. The hole that is 14 inches in diameter is adjacent to a playground at the Khilgaon colony right beside a water pipe of WASA. Until 8pm Friday, fire-fighters were trying to bring ‘Ziaur’ up using rope. They have made several abortive attempts until now. His father Nasimuddin told reporters that Ziaur fell inside the hole around 3:30pm while playing with his friends. Three units of fire-fighters arrived at the scene around 4pm and started the rescue efforts, said Fire Service control room official Brajen Kumar Sarkar. Shahjahanpur Police Station OC Mehedi Hasan said the several hundred feet deep hole was dug by WASA sometime ago and was abandoned. He said the attempts to save Ziaur were facing obstruction as the hole was not that wide. Rescuers said they spoke to the boy several times and provided him with some food and fresh oxygen. –bdnews24.com
