The body of a schoolboy was recovered, while many others are feared to have been trapped as a four-storey building collapsed in Babubail area of Narayanganj city on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased identified as Shoain Hossain, 10, was a class-VI student, said Afroza Hasan Diba, a Councillor of Narayanganj City Corporation.
At least three injured persons were rescued from the building scene and they were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Still some people feared under debris, said Aslam Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fatullah Police Station.
The building collapsed in the canal in Baburail area, leaving one dead and some others feared trapped, according to locals.
Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Abdullah Arefin said that they pulled out the body of the boy from the debris and apprehended that many others have got trapped inside the building.
The building was constructed two years ago on a canal reportedly without honouning the building code, said locals.
Six firefighting units along with divers have been working to rescue the trapped people, he said adding that the death toll might rise further.
