Four staffers of a restaurant in Narayanganj’s Araihajar upazila on Friday sustained burn injuries in an explosion resulting from gas trapped inside the eatery.
The incident took place around 3:15pm on Friday afternoon at Royal Restaurant’s kitchen on the fourth floor of Dubai Plaza in the upazila, reports our Narayanganj correspondent quoting Md Shahjahan Hossain, in-charge of Araihajar Fire Service Station.
The injured are Russell Haque (18), Shamsul Haque (21) and Farid Ali (44) of the upazila, and Al Amin (20) of Sylhet. “Two firefighting units went to the spot, doused the blaze and rescued the four restaurant staffers. They were immediately taken to the upazila health complex and later three of them were sent to Dhaka in critical condition,” Shahjahan said.
“Primarily we suspect that there was gas trapped in the kitchen and the explosion was caused by a spark. The restaurant authorities said it was an explosion of a gas cylinder but we did not find any evidence of that. We are investigating,” the fire service official added.
“Four staffers of the restaurant were brought to the health complex on Friday afternoon. Al Amin was released after being provided primary treatment while the three others have been sent for better treatment at the Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka,” said Dr Sharif Hossain of Araihajar Upazila Health Complex.
“Of the three, Farid has 50 percent burns while Shamsul Haque and Russell have 15 percent burns. All of them were sent to the burn institute in critical condition,” the doctor added.
