Chittagong district police arrested four leaders and activists of Jammat-Shibir including a prime accused in Jubo League activist killing case in Satkania upazila of the district on Friday night.
The arrested were identified as president of Satkania upazila unit of Shibir Enamul Haque Enam, 25 and the accused in torching the houses of minority community -Mohammad Shafi, 20, Sujon Mia, 18 and Ruhul Amin, 25.
Police arrested Enamul Haque, also the prime accused in Jubo League activist Abdul Jabbar killing case, after raiding his residence in Bajaliya area of the upazila around 11pm last night, said Khaled Hossain, officer-in- charge (OC) of Satkania Police Station.
“Enamul was involved in almost all the incidents of violence including vandalism and arson attacks on vehicles on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway that was carried out following the announcement of the verdicts in war crimes cases”, the OC added.
The Jamaat-Shibir men stabbed Jubo League activist Jabbar indiscriminately and ransacked his house after news of Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah’s execution spread on December 10 last year.
Nine days after the attack, Jabbar succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in the city. Police filed a murder case on December 21 with the police station after the killing.
Meanwhile, police arrested three more Shibir leaders from Dhemsha area under the upazila on Friday night in connection with torching the house of a Haradhan Das on January 16.
