4 rice hoarders fined in Kishoreganj

The Food Department including Administration have conducting nationwide drives against rice, atta hoarders.
A mobile court in Kishoreganj on Thursday afternoon fined 4 rice hoarders Tk 4000 at Bara Bazar in the town for price hiking of stored rice.
District Food Controller (DC,Food) Md. Farhad Khandaker, Sadar UNO Mohammad Ali Siddique, Executive Magistrate Mahabub Hasan, Executive Magistrate Joytee, CAB district president Alam Sarowar Tito, and Bara Bazar Police Camp In-charge Md.Shahabuddin conducted the operation at Bara Bazar kitchen market in the town. .
District Food Controller in Kishoreganj Md.Farhad Khandaker said that, emphasis should be given on issuing and renewing food grains licenses.
The government will not allow the packaging of rice for sale after it is purchased from open market.
The government procures rice for two reasons to ensure that farmers get a fair price for their crops and to ensure national food security, DC Food in Kishoreganj added. BSS from Cumilla adds: A team of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP), in a drive, here today realized Tk 33,000 as fine money from the owners of three business establishments, including a rice wholesaler and a warehouse in the district town area Friday morning.
Sources concerned said the team led by Assistant Director of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) in Cumilla Asadul Islam conducted the drive at M/S Mahbub Enterprise and M/S Dayal Enterprise and fined them Tk 10,000 and Tk 8,000 respectively for selling rice at higher price while buying those at lower price and stock rice without stock license.
The team also fined M/S Hawk Products Bakery in the district town area around 10.30 am and realized Taka 15,000 from them for selling products to the consumers without mentioning price and weight.
The business establishments were fined Tk 33,000 for various irregularities and in the violation of the Consumer Rights Protection Act-2009, Asadul Islam said.
Members of the law enforcement agencies assisted the operation team which will conduct such drives against those who stockpile rice illegally and sell it at exorbitant prices, he told BSS.As part of the DNCPR authorities, this kind of drives would be continued in the district, the DNCRP official added.
