RAB arrested four accused of torching passenger buses at Rampura, Dhaka to take the so-called revenge of the death of a student on November 29.
Not only that bus, they vandalized many more passenger buses in the capital’s Rampura with evil motivation of reating anarchy and chaos across the country.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said this after arresting four people, including the
mastermind in connection with the vandalism and torching of buses in city’s Rampura area.
The arrested have been identified as a Monir Hossain (54), one of the perpetrators of arson and vandalism, Hridoy Hasan Parvez (19), Md. Alauddin Sifat (25) and Md. Naeem Hasan Mir (24).
Earlier, on Tuesday night, the elite force members arrested them based on intelligence information during the drives to different parts of Dhaka and Cumilla.
This information was given by Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of Law and Media Wing of RAB at a press conference held at RAB Media Center in Kawran Bazar of the capital on Wednesday afternoon.
Khandaker Al Moin said that the incident of killing a student in a bus crash in the capital Rampura on November 29 was an attempt by creating panic and fear in the minds of the people by setting fire and vandalizing several buses. At this time, there was created propaganda to raise the issue of ‘half fare’ of the students.
After the incident, Bangladesh National Security Intelligence started intensive intelligence activities to uncover the reasons behind the violence.
Detectives were able to identify those who were involved in the incident through field level investigations, analysis of various footage and analysis of information technology.
They later arrested in a joint operation by RAB and the National Security Intelligence (NSI).
During interrogation, the detainees informed the RAB that the incident of arson in the bus in Rampura occurred under the direction and plan of Monir. They had a plan to create a volatile situation in the whole country centering on the Rampura incident.
They know that there was a danger of creating tension in Rampura due to an incident that took place in Gazipur. After that incident, they prepared for possible sabotage and arson in the BTV building area of Rampura.
According to the RAB, the mastermind Monir gave instructions to four and five people including Alauddin and Naeem for the sabotage . According to the plan, 3/4 more people including Alauddin and Hridoy were given the responsibility of providing bottled octane. Arrested Naeem coordinated with arsonists, terrorists and assailants.
In the incident, 15 to 20 loyalists of the gang were given the responsibility to set fire.
On November 29, Ekramunnesa High School’s SSC candidate Mainuddin Islam Durjoy was ran over by a bus of ‘Anabil Paribahan’ near Rampura Bazar. Following the accident, angry mob torched and vandalised nine buses on the road.
Rasheda Begum, mother of the deceased, filed a case in this connection.
Police, however, filed two more cases accusing some 250-300 people in one case while 400-500 in another one.
