4 more drug traders killed in gunfights

Four suspected drug peddlers were killed in reported gunfights with law enforcers in Chapainawabganj, Kushtia, Dinajpur and Cox’s Bazar districts early Saturday.
In Chapainawabganj, suspected drug dealer Khairul Islam, 45, has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Mollan Village under Sundarpur Union of Sadar Upazila.
Chapainawabganj RAB-5 Camp Commander Squadron Leader Syed Abdullah Al Murad said, “A RAB team was patrolling the Sundarpur area as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign. Hearing that a gang of drug dealers was engaging in illegal narcotics trade in a nearby mango orchard, RAB conducted a raid there. Sensing RAB presence, the culprits began firing on them, triggering a gunfight.”
RAB later found a body riddled by bullets. The suspect was taken to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival, the RAB official said.
One foreign gun, one magazine, four bullets, and 117 bottles of Phensidyl were seized from the spot, he said.
Four RAB members were also injured during the gunfight, according to him. In Kushtia, a suspected drug peddler named Shamsuddin alias Shyam, 36, was killed in a gunfight with the police at Bakapul in Bheramara Upazila.
Bheramara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam said, Police receiving an information that a gang of illegal narcotics dealers were trading drugs in the early hours of Saturday. “A police team took up positions in the area to apprehend the suspects, but they began firing at the law enforcers. Police retaliated, and one culprit got injured in the ensuing gunfight,” the police official said.
Police later took the suspect to Bheramara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival. Later investigation revealed that the deceased Shyam, was accused in around eight narcotics related cases, the OC said. Police seized one locally made gun, two bullets, and 500 pieces of yaba tablets from the scene, he said.
In Dinajpur, a suspected illegal narcotics trader was killed in a gunfight between two rival gangs in Parbatipur Upazila. The deceased, Abdur Rahim, was accused in several cases and hailed from Puraton Bazar Railgate area, said Parbatipur police OC Habibul Haque Prodhan.
 “On a tip off that a gunfight has taken place in Parbatipur, police investigated the area and found the body of Abdur Rahim, who was a listed drug peddler, the OC said.
 “Rahim died when two rival gangs exchanged gunshots. His body has been sent to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital for autopsy.”
Police seized one locally made gun, one bullet, one bullet casing, 100 pieces of yaba, and 50 bottles of Phensedyl from the spot, according to RAB sources.
In Cox’s Bazar, a suspected narcotics dealer named Mohammad Ismile, 30, was killed in a gunfight between two rival gangs on Chakria-Lama road in Chakria Upazila, said Md Bakhtiar Uddin Chowdhury,OC of Chakria Police Station.
 “We received a tip that two rival gangs of drug peddlers had engaged in a gunfight for establishing dominance in the area.
 “We dispatched a police team in the area, but the culprits ran away. After a search, police found the body of Ismile from the spot.”
