4 lakh sacrificial animals ready for sale in Sylhet

On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, 4 lakh animals are ready for sacrifice in Sylhet.
According to the Department of Livestock Sylhet, the number of animals to be sacrificed in the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha in Sylhet Division is 2,43,803. These animals will be sacrificed through trade. Besides, this time there is talk of sacrificing more than one and a half lakh animals from the house. In all, about 4 lakh animals will be sacrificed in Sylhet this time. According to the relevant sources, 14 thousand 981 farmers in Sylhet division have 2 lakh 43 thousand 803 sacrificial animals. Of these, 91,365 are bulls, 26,046 are bulls, 23,490 are cows, 8,938 are buffaloes, 72,813 are goats and 29,923 are sheep. Besides, more than 1 lakh 50 thousand 403 animals are being prepared for family sacrifice.
Last year, 4 lakh 8 thousand 960 animals were sacrificed in Sylhet division on Eid-ul-Azha. As such, there is a shortage of more than 15,000 animals in Sylhet division. However, the livestock authorities are confident that this demand will be met in time.
Livestock According to Sylhet sources, there are 6,392 sacrificial animals in Sylhet district for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. Of these, there are 43,064 bulls, oxen and cows, 4,652 buffaloes and 26,096 goats and sheep.
Of the 69,269 sacrificial animals in Sunamganj district, the number of bulls, bullocks and cows is 47,626, 1,694 buffaloes and 20,006 sheep and goats.
Of the 39,013 sacrificial animals in Moulvibazar district, there are 19,418 bulls, oxen and cows, 1,656 buffaloes and 17,839 goats and sheep.
Of the 57,109 sacrificial animals in Habiganj district, 32,312 are bulls, oxen and cows, 633 are buffaloes and 25,064 are goats and sheep.
Director of the Department of Livestock, Sylhet Divisional Office. Mohammad Zakir Hossain said that livestock had been damaged in Sylhet due to the floods. However, there will not be a shortage of sacrificial animals in the market. Every year some animals come to the Qurbani market from outside the district. This time too it will be no exception. The deficit will be filled by animals from other districts.
154 cattle markets set up in Khulna
BSS from Khulna adds: Livestock department in Khulna division has set up a total of 154 traditional and makeshift cattle markets in all ten districts of the division to sell the sacrificial animals ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
 Meanwhile, Bapperys (Cattle Traders) started to bring sacrificial animals to the cattle markets from their own farms though five days left to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the Muslims.
According to the Livestock department, all district Livestock departments in association with the district administrations have set up the cattle markets from two weeks left of Eid-ul-Azha which will run till morning on the Eid day.
Of the 154 traditional and makeshift cattle markets, at least 28 including KCCs Zoragate cattle markets have been set up in Khulna while 27 in Bagerhat, 15 in Satkhira, 10 in Jashore, 24 in Jhenaidah, 14 in Magura, 9 in Narail, 15 in Kushtia and 6 each in Chuadanga and Meherpur.
Talking to BSS, Director of Khulna divisional Livestock Department Sukhendu Shekhor Gayen said the cattle markets have been set up at all 59 upazilas in 10 districts and Khulna City Corporation (KCC). A total of 120 medical teams have already formed for cattle markets.
“The demand for sacrificial animals in Khulna division this Eid-ul-Azha could be met almost entirely with locally-reared livestock,” he said.
 According to the Livestock Office, the demand for sacrificial animals in Khulna division this year stands at 8, 57,601, but this year, farmers of the division reared 13,99,821 sacrificial animals targeting Eid-ul-Azha, 38 percent more than the demand.
This year cow has been reared 4, 02,553 while buffalo 5,916, goat 9, 55,303, sheep 36,038 and other animals 11 in the division.
A total of 13, 99,821 sacrificial animals have been reared locally against demand 13, 99,821, more 5, 42,220 in ten districts of the division.
