4 human ‘traffickers’ held in city, four victims rescued

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police in a drive arrested four suspected human traffickers from the capital’s Motijheel area in the small hours of Tuesday.
They have recovered 850 passports, 40 fake certificates and a large number of fake document making materials from their possessions.
The detained persons were identified are Mohidul Islam, 45, Md Himmot Ali, 38, Md Russell, 23, and Ujjal Khan, 20, police official said.
The detective police also have rescued four trafficking victims during the drive. They are Ashraful, Ali, Azad and Saiful.
Abdul Kahar Akand, Special Police Super (SP) of CID under Dhaka Metropolitan Police said that a team of detective conducted a special drive at an office of a travel agency in Motijheel between 1:00am and 2:00am and arrested four members of the seven-member human trafficking gang.
“However, three persons, including the ring leader of the criminal gang, Tipu Sultan, managed to flee the scene,” the CID official said.
“The criminals have been kept in CID custody. They will be handed over to the police in one or two days,” said Abdul Kahar.
A case has been filed against the detained person in this connection on Tuesday afternoon.
