The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in a raid arrested two youths with 12,600 pieces of yaba tablets from Sadarghat area under Sadarghat thana in the city on Friday afternoon.
The arrested persons were identified as Habib Hossain, 30, and Mohammad Ayaz, 25.On secret tip-off, the DNC team raided in front of Hotel Delight and arrested them with the yaba tablets, said Mohammad Imrul Hasan Chowdhury, Superintendent of DNC Metro area.
A case was filed in this connection under narcotics act, sources said.
UNB from Khagrachari adds: Army personnel arrested two young men along with 94 pieces of Yaba tablet and two bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from Bazar area in Manikchhari upazila on Friday night.
The arrestees were identified as Parvej Hossain,25, publicity secretary of the upazila unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, and Sabuj,22, an activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
Local sources said tipped off, a team of the army conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo at about 10:00 pm.
Later, the army men recovered 94 pieces of Yaba tablet and two bottles of Phensidyl syrup from their possession.
The arrestees were handed over to Manikchari Police Station.
Officer-in-charge of the police station Shafiqul Islam confirmed the arrest.
